Incontinence Management
This three hour course is intended to define the role of occupational and physical therapy incontinence care. This course is designed to teach therapist how to identify, assess and treat patients affected by urinary incontinence in a skilled nursing facility.
Seminar Objectives
- Explain the definition and basic understanding of incontinence.
- Summarize how to implement a continence program in the Skilled Nursing Facility setting.
- Indentify and understand the pelvic structures and understand their functions.
- Indentify urinary incontinent risk factors including irritants.
- Understand the types and causes of urinary incontinence.
- Explain how to properly implement and gather bladder health information including voiding diaries and intake forms.
- Identify signs and symptoms of too much or too little fluid intake.
- Understand the relationship of nursing involvement and data entry into the MDS to support treatment.
- Explain how to screen, assess and treat patients with urinary incontinence.
- Summarize and explain how to properly bill and document for services.
