Addressing Positioning Issues in the Geriatric Patient
This three hour course is intended to provide clinicians with information regarding the impact on improper positioning the geriatric population, common underlying factors for positional abnormalities and potential secondary complication of improper positioning. The program also focuses on educating clinicians on proper method of assessment of therapeutic needs as well as development and implementation of an appropriate treatment program. The course materials are presented as evidenced-based and oriented to clinical application for standard skilled therapy for fall prevention.

- Delineate what is the correct positional situation and what common variations occur from that norm.
- Identify common underlying factors for positional abnormalities in the geriatric population.
- Identify potential secondary complication of improper positioning.
- Explain the assessment procedure for positioning patients within the scope of Medicare guidelines.
- Summarize the development and implementation of an effective and efficient treatment program to address positional issues and the underlying physiological conditions contributing to positional abnormalities.
