Restraint Reduction in Skilled Nursing Facillities
This three hour course is intended to provide clinicians with information regarding restraint usage and reduction in the long term care setting. The information set forth includes CMS and Department of Human Services rules and regulations regarding restraints, implications of restraint usage, systematic process to identify the underlying physiological factors resulting in the introduction of restraint, assessment and documentation process for evaluation of patients appropriate for restraint cessation/ reduction, and, treatment overview for successful treatment of patients for restraint reduction of cessation. The course materials are presented as evidenced-based and oriented to clinical application for standard skilled therapy for restraint reduction/ cessation.
Seminar Objectives
- Define what is a restraint and describe CMS and Department of Human Services rules and regulations regarding restraints
- Discuss implications of restraint usage in the geriatric population
- Summarize the difference between equipment/ devices/ situations that do and do not meet the qualifications for restraint
- Determine how to systematically identify the underlying physiological cause of restraint introduction
- Select common areas of evaluation pertinent to a fall restraint reduction/cessation.
- Develop and implement a focused treatment plan with proper implementation of rational course of therapy for patients to promote restraint reduction or cessation.
