Fall Risk Prevention
This three-hour course is intended to provide clinicians with information regarding the impact on falls to the geriatric population, common risk factors of falls and fall prevention strategies. The program also focuses on education clinicians on proper method of identifying risk individuals and treating common risk factors. The course materials are presented as evidenced-based and oriented to clinical application for standard skilled therapy for fall prevention.
Seminar Objectives
- Identify common causes and risk factors associated with falls in the elderly population.
- Identify the intrinsic as well as extrinsic risk indicators for falls in the elderly population.
- Explain the physiological changes that occurs with aging that increase fall risk.
- Expresss a rational explanation of treatment methods to slow and/or reverse the physiological changes that occur with aging that increase risk of falls.
- Explain medical situations that lead to increased rate of falls.
- Identify common areas of evaluation pertinent to a fall risk assessment.
- Demonstrate correct testing method for balance testing with high correlation to fall rate.
- Explain the proper method of assessing fall risk during standard ADL performance.
- Develop and implement a focused treatment plan with proper implementation of vestibular, somatosensory, coordination, and treatment for advanced functioning patients.
